The wait is (almost) over.

Ten years in the making, the $46 million modernization of the bus system in the Valley won a $25 million federal grant.

RFTA plans to expand the bus system and make it more efficient with a “bus rapid transit” concept that aims to make road buses operate more like light rail.

Transit officials are planning to launch the new system in September 2013.  Highlights of the new system would include a new digital radio system, a vastly improved scheduling system, and arrival signs and GPS technology that will tell dispatchers and riders where buses are in real time.
